Getting political on your a$$

Ok, first of all I would like to say that I usually would not get involved in politics or voice my opinion. Second, I want you to know that I respect the fact that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I do not judge you based on that opinion and I hope that you can give me the same respect. I realize that I will make some people upset by this because from what I can tell, the majority of my friends in this blogging world are Pro Prop 8. And that's fine. Like I said, I have nothing against you. I just want to use this forum as a way to voice my opinions. Tomorrow I will be voting no on prop 8 not because I am for gay marriage, but because I am anti discrimination. I believe that people are born gay and that it is not a choice. As a former kindergarten teacher, I have seen first hand, 4 and 5 year olds that I can bet my life on will grow up to be gay. I highly doubt that those 4 year olds chose to be gay. To say that gay people cannot get married is like saying people born with blue eyes cannot get married. Did you have a choice to be born with blue eyes? Oh too bad, you can't marry the person you love. I understand that some of you are firm believers in the fact that the bible says marriage is between a man and a woman. Thats all fine and dandy. I have no religious background so that means nothing to me. But what has that done for marriage anyway? Over half of marriages end up in divorce. Isn't divorce anti bible? My dad said that letting gays marry will make a "farce" of marriage. You know who is making a farce of marriage? People like my mother who have been married 8+ times who throw away their marriages like the weekly garbage. The bible might say that marriage is between a man and woman but doesn't it also say something about not hating and judging others? But the best argument by far for yes on prop 8, is the whole teaching gay marriage in schools. What an f-ing joke! There are these things called standards that tell us what we MUST teach and no where in these standards does it state that we teach marriage of any kind! Gay or straight. It might come up in discussion which would force a teacher to address the topic, but a lot of uncomfortable stuff comes up. You cannot control what kids ask. I've rattled on enough about this. I apologize for my rant, and I apologize to those who disagree, but that is what's great about America. We can disagree and we can freely voice our opinions!

Juli, I hope you don't mind me stealing your pic!

never a need to apologize when it comes to political views and expressing them on Your own Happy Place, your blog!!That's why I love this country so much!Standing on the opposite side I still know we can sit down and share a meal together without politics standing in the way!

I must say it feels so incredible to have such strong opinions stir inside! I feel blessed to be able to hear from all my friends and see that opinions and emotions stir strong inside them as well!Better that then nothing right! To stand for nothing is sad!

My sentiments exactly! If Vaughn grows up to be gay, then I sure hope he will be able to marry whoever he chooses. I would never wish to put limits on anyone's happiness. It is not my place, and it shouldn't be anyone elses.

That was well written Laura! You have said what I've wanted to say and just didn't! I too voted NO on 8. Working with young children I feel the same way that people that are gay are born that way.

Love you!
