As part of my 101 in 1001 list, I am to try 10 new restaurants and blog a review. I've been to a lot of new restaurants, but I never bother to review them. So here's one. We went to Crow Bar in Corona Del Mar with Nate's good friend, Tom, and his wife, Sarah. Nate and I tried to eat here one other time, but it was when it first opened and it was so crowded, we couldn't even get in. So we gave it another try last weekend. The Crow Bar is what's called a Gastropub, a British term for a public house (pub) which specializes in high-quality food, steps above the more basic "pub grub”. They have a wide selection of beers and wines. I had a couple glasses of pinot grigio. It was really good. The food was mediocre. The flavor was good, but the portions were really small. I had the mussels and fries. Nate had the fish and chips. We had to wait a really long time for a table so they gave us a free stuffed date appetizer. I've never had a date, but these were pretty scrumptious. They were wrapped in bacon (actually it was chorizo, but tasted like bacon), which made them extra delicious. I would definitely go back for drinks, but probably not for dinner. It wasn't worth the price.
