Bakersfield or Bust

I spent the weekend in Bakersfield. It was my first time up there since Nate moved there back in October. He always comes back home to Orange County on the weekends, but he had to run a 10k with his academy up there. Being the good wife that I am, I went up there so we could still be together on the weekend. We got a hotel room, which is always fun, no matter what city you are in. Friday night we had dinner with his roommate/buddy from the academy, Sam Adams (yes, his name really is Sam Adams) and Sam's girlfriend. We went to a yummy restaurant called Tahoe Joe's. Saturday morning I slept in while Nate ran the 10k. Saturday night, another guy from the academy had a BBQ for the other guys in the academy and their families. It was great to meet some of the guys who Nate spends so much time with training. It certainly was a different crowd from the OC/LA firefighter get togethers that I am used to. Country music was playing and the only kid there was running around wearing a cowboy hat and pushing a tractor! After the BBQ, Nate and I went to a Condors game. The Condors are Bakersfield's minor league hockey team. We were warned that they suck, but they actually won! It was fun to watch. I love hockey. It's the only sport I actually enjoy watching. I just love when the fights break out. There definitely weren't enough that night!

It was nice tonight when Nate called me on his way "home" from work as he always does, and be able to picture his drive home. Before this weekend, I didn't have a clue as to what Bakersfield was like. It actually isn't that bad. I definitely would go crazy if I had to live there, but it wasn't as bad as I imagined. Then again, I was only there for 2 days.

Glad to hear you had a nice weekend. :) I'm sure Nate was happy to have you there with him. So are you going to be a country girl with little country children if you move there ;) JK :)

Nate is almost done!!! How exciting!
